You may want to also consider the Discussion template for your case tracking. I know you have already done some work on the personal journal.
If not too late ... the discussion DB is naturally designed for group work and maintains threads through a response hierarchy (similar to this forum) which is much more suited to legal work as cases progress. Additionally there is the interest profile & mail agent that keep each user informed of any postings by a combination of keywords, topic and author. The user decides what they want to be informed about (like this forum). You can even mark any posting 'private' in which case it will be only visible to you. It is very well designed by Lotus to be as functional on the web (if you need it) as it is in Notes. You may even want to use the web interface for sharing case specific information with your client (customer) by simply adjusting the ACL to prompt a login and of course modifying the access to individual document access.
Finally it is called a discussion DB but in fact there are many applications for it. I have even used it for a bunch of people posting their holiday pictures and write ups.
